Thankful Thursdays: Of A Sensitive Nature

On this edition of Thankful Thursdays, I’m already straying from my original formula – and today I’m not going to talk about a person (and next week the audio version will return). This is going to be relatively strange and maybe uncharacteristic in my personality, at least in the perception of me for most of you.

I am expressing gratefulness for emotion and sensitivity – specifically, my own.

There are people who don’t outwardly show emotion. They put up a façade and maybe put a brave face on. Some might come off rough or snobby or overly confident. It’s OK that they do that, if they’re OK with themselves.

There are people who are unaware of how others feel, lack consideration for others, and may come off with a lack of sensitivity. Again, we don’t know what they may be going through, or it’s just innocently the way they are, by design.

I personally am thankful that there are times I can show emotion – whether happiness with a smile on my face, fun with bursts of laughter, or sadness with the shedding of tears. Depending on the situation, I may show vulnerability.

I am glad for my extra bit of sensitivity than what society may deem average. On the downside, I can get offended easily or get upset at a situation more than I should. And I’m constantly working on that. But on a positive note, I can extend help and kindness for those that I care about and sense when they are in need.

It’s a blessing and a curse. I have to exercise discernment when I’m expressing certain emotions or have heightened sensitivity. But I’m grateful that God made me who I am.
