#AudioMo Challenge – Join me in June!

This is a personal invitation to join me—and hundreds of others around the world—in an annual online challenge that I’ve done for the past few years now. It’s called “AudioMo.”

What is it?
It is an individual daily journal in audio form that you post every day during the month of June. It can be whatever you want it to be. Share what you did that day, read your original story or writings, tell us a daily joke—be creative!

Hear an explanation here (by @ernmander, via AudioMo on tumblr).

Is it easy to participate?
Yes! Even if you have little to no experience in recording audio, you can easily record something on your computer or your smartphone. I’ll explain some audio platform methods below.

How will everyone hear it?
After recording on whatever audio platform you use, share the link to your own Facebook, Twitter, tumblr, and/or Instagram profile and hashtag it #audiomo. Be sure your profile is public so we can all access it.

How do I record?
There are different audio platforms available to make it easy. These apps are available for iOS and Android.

• audioBoom – I’ve used this app the most for AudioMo and personally recommend it. The free edition allows unlimited posts with a maximum length of 10 minutes. You can set it audioboom-logoto automatically post to Facebook, Twitter, tumblr, and/or your WordPress site. (Don’t forget to use the #audiomo tag in the title!) You can even share it to podcast platforms. You can also opt to pay $10/month to record up to an hour per post, link it to iTunes, and distribution through audioBoom services. In either plan, you can record on your smartphone app or on your computer via the website. (Follow me on audioBoom! My audio will also be right here on my website.)

• SoundCloud – Although many musicians use this platform, it is also useful for podcasting, and certainly useable for AudioMo. Similarly, you can SoundCloud_logopost via smartphone app or website. It can also automatically or manually share to Facebook, Twitter, tumblr, and Google+. @ernmander uses SoundCloud regularly.

• Anchor – From their website, they say this app “makes it easy to broadcast short audioAnchor-Logo clips to a global audience in seconds… When not recording, listen to authentic humor, knowledge, inspiration, and debate from Anchor’s global collective of personality.” Functionality is pretty simple and straightforward. AudioMo will be using this platform in 2016.

voicebo_logo (1)VoiceBo – I haven’t used this app, but have seen other AudioMo participants with it. They have YouTube videos to explain its use. There are options to post to Facebook, Twitter, and tumblr. You can record on the smartphone app, or use your computer to record or upload pre-recorded audio files.

• HearMeOut – I just found out about this one. I honestly don’t know muhmo-logo-TM-blackch about it, except that each post is limited to 42 seconds. Sorry I don’t have more info, but wanted to get other options out there.

What is the purpose of AudioMo?
One of my online friends, whose moniker is @ernmander (he created the challenge and introduced me to it), says, “You can do what you wanna do. It’s all about enjoying the challenge and meeting new people. It’s a great way to connect.” People all over the world have participated and interacted. @ernmander lives in the UK, and I’m in Chicago!
