My Quick Review: McFarland, USA

Based on a true story, McFarland, USA (Walt Disney Pictures) is set in 1987 and stars Kevin Costner as Jim White, a pushed-out football coach who moves his family to a small town in California to teach at a local, predominantly Latino high school. Unable to mesh with the coach there, White is further reduced to teaching P.E. and discovers that some of his students are natural athletes, not in football — but running.

McFarland, USA is pretty slow and laid back all along. It has its good moments of highs and lows and keeps a simple formula. Overall it is heartwarming and inspiring, and definitely fit for the entire family.

Mark says: Go and see it!

In theaters February 20, 2015.
